Cati Pizà seeks Mallorca council seat

Affordable homes are at the heart of Cati Pizà’s bid for a seat on the Mallorca Island Council. On 10 September 2026, the former councillor in Sóller, Mallorca, entered Podemos’s primary to join the party’s council slate. She says the council has the greatest power to shape tourism policy.

Pizà is calling for stronger public services, cheaper housing and a tourism model with firm limits and a shift towards degrowth. She argues that tourist pressure is no longer limited to summer and is increasingly affecting the everyday lives of Mallorca’s residents.

In her view, the present model has left roads, streets and squares overloaded, while water is scarce and public services are under strain. She also points to workers who cannot afford to live close to their jobs.

Housing is one of her central pledges. Pizà says people born and working on Mallorca should be able to afford rent, rather than seeing towns become places where people holiday but cannot live.

She said she would bring her long record of social and political involvement to Podemos’s project, adding that change needs people prepared to defend it.
