Mallorca leader calls Ceuta arrivals attack on Spain

Marga Prohens has called July’s mass arrival of migrants in Ceuta an “organised attack” on Spain’s territorial integrity. The president of the Balearic Government restated her view on Tuesday at a housing development presentation in Marratxí, Mallorca. She was responding to an order by National Court judge María Tardón, who is investigating the events.

Prohens said she had the “utmost respect” for the courts and their investigation. It was for judges to decide what happened, she said, but added that she believed the reports were already clear.

She described the arrivals as a mass entry and an invasion of Spanish territory, as well as an attack on Spain’s border and territorial integrity.

Prohens said police reports, conflicting accounts from government ministers and the judge’s inquiry supported her claim that Ceuta was neither a migration crisis nor a humanitarian crisis. She also accused those describing it that way of misleading citizens, and questioned an earlier claim that the situation had been resolved within 48 hours.
