Ceuta firms press for help as CAEB joins crisis talks

Businesses in Ceuta have set out the problems they say they have faced for more than a month. Carmen Planas, president of the Confederation of Balearic Business Associations (CAEB), joined the executive committee and board of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE) in the autonomous city on Wednesday. The talks examined the economic impact on companies operating there.

A CEOE delegation also toured key locations in Ceuta early in the day, including Playa del Trampolín beach. It then met representatives of Ceuta’s business confederation, who raised their concerns about the difficulties facing firms.

Security and logistics were among the issues discussed, along with state backing to defend residents and the city’s territorial integrity. Ceuta forms part of Spain and the European Union.

The meeting also examined a package of urgent measures that Ceuta businesses have submitted to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Enterprise. The proposals aim to protect companies and people, safeguard jobs and stop crisis-related costs becoming a permanent burden.
