Mallorca leader defends €25m for Ceuta migrant children
Marga Prohens defends €25 million for the care of migrant children travelling alone in Ceuta during a clash with Vox at the Balearic Parliament in Palma, Mallorca, on 9 September. The Balearic leader says the funding stops the autonomous city having to cut resources for its own citizens.
Vox deputy Manuela Cañadas wants the money withdrawn. She argues that extra millions will not solve the problem and says citizens cannot pay more to support the migrants.
Ceuta row reaches Palma
Prohens said Ceuta and its president already faced enough difficulties without having to give up resources for local people.
She also attacked Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, accusing him of going on holiday and blaming everyone except Morocco. She said Morocco was seeking sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla.
Prohens cites arrivals in the Balearics
Prohens said 200 migrants had reached the Balearic Islands aboard around ten small boats. She said that if Sánchez cared little about Ceuta, he cared even less about the Balearics.
She also criticised PSIB, the socialist party, for not raising Ceuta during the parliamentary control session. Prohens said the party had asked about Palestine last year but had not questioned her about what was happening in Ceuta.
