Ceuta protest draws crowds in five Ibiza towns

Crowds gathered in the squares of five town halls across Ibiza to show support for Ceuta and its people. On 3 September, José Vicente Marí Bosó, president of the People’s Party (PP) in Eivissa, praised the rallies held the previous day. He said the response backed Spain’s territorial integrity and coexistence.

Marí Bosó said those at the gatherings had made clear that Ceuta was not alone and should be defended. He argued that the mobilisation went beyond party politics, and said the government and the Socialists should reflect on its message. Treating the rallies simply as an attack on them, he said, would mean they had “a problem”.

The PP leader said support for Ceuta should continue in the coming weeks and months. He also called on Spain’s government to pursue a recognisable foreign policy, while saying people in Ibiza had demanded unity, coexistence and protection for all Spanish citizens.
