Mallorca child abuse trial halted as accused fails to appear
Inca, Mallorca: A man accused of sexually abusing two boys fails to appear in court on Wednesday, 4 November, halting his trial. The First Section of the Provincial Court orders a search for him. Attempts to find him during the morning fail, and the hearing, due to run on Wednesday and Thursday, has no new date.
Prosecutors are seeking a 14-year prison sentence and a total of €20,000 in compensation for the boys, who were 11 and 12 at the time of the alleged offences.
According to the prosecution, the boys stayed overnight at the accused man’s home on 18 July 2020. One was the grandson of his mother’s partner. Prosecutors allege that the man got into the bed where the boys were sleeping and sexually touched one of them. That boy woke and left the room. The man then allegedly sexually abused the other boy.
