Balearic chlamydia cases jump to 436 from 159
Mallorca has no separate count: across the Balearic Islands, recorded chlamydia cases climb from 159 in 2024 to 436 in 2025. The Spanish Ministry of Health and the Carlos III Health Institute publish the figures on Thursday, 22 October 2026. Their report also shows a rise in lymphogranuloma venereum, another sexually transmitted infection, while syphilis and gonorrhoea cases fall.
Two infections on the rise
The Balearic chlamydia rate rises from 12.91 to 34.8 cases per 100,000 people. Lymphogranuloma venereum cases increase from seven to 15. The report records no detected cases of either infection on the islands from 2018 to 2023.
Syphilis falls, but the rate remains high
Syphilis cases drop from 416 to 364. Even so, the Balearics have the fourth-highest syphilis rate among Spain’s autonomous communities in 2025. Gonorrhoea cases edge down from 648 to 640.
Across Spain, chlamydia diagnoses rise, while syphilis and lymphogranuloma venereum cases fall. The island-wide figures do not show how many cases occurred on Mallorca.
