Mallorca church launches call to protect the islands

At 09.00 on Tuesday, Bishop Sebastià Taltavull leads the conventual Mass at Mallorca Cathedral, opening the island’s Creation Time with a call to care for the archipelago.

The Diocese of Mallorca is joining the Catholic Church period, which runs until 4 October and focuses on protecting the planet. On Mallorca, it marks the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation under the theme “Living Water”.

The diocese says the theme has particular weight on the islands because of their distinctive territory and the need to safeguard natural resources.

In his message, Taltavull pointed to the beauty of the Balearic Islands and recalled a pastoral letter written by the archipelago’s bishops 36 years ago. It said the land would have a future if people used common sense, truly loved nature and kept progress serving the common good.
