Mallorca: Part of Cine Iris roof collapses after rain

Mallorca: Part of the roof at Palma’s former Cine Iris cinema collapses after days of heavy rain, and the city bars parking beside the building. Palma City Council also blames the building’s neglected condition. City planning staff and the Palma Fire Brigade inspect it again on Wednesday morning, 21 October 2026.

Deputy city spokesman Llorenç Bauzá says the current owners failed to carry out necessary maintenance in recent years. He says that failure contributed to the collapse.

As a precaution, the council cordoned off the side of the building next to a sports centre on Tuesday afternoon and banned parking there. Bauzá says no report points to a greater risk than the roof damage already found. The city government intends to buy the former cinema.
