Mallorca gets 765 bus places as Ciutadella school opens

Mallorca has 765 school-transport places for vocational training students this term, while 281 students are already enrolled at a new hospitality and tourism training centre in Ciutadella, Menorca. Marga Prohens opened the 2026-2027 vocational training year at the centre on Monday, 21 September. The site, in the former maritime station, can take 420 students.

The Balearic Government's Ministry of Education and Universities rebuilt the building with €3.84 million from the Sustainable Tourism Tax. It has nearly 2,000 square metres and is intended to become Menorca's reference centre for hospitality and tourism training.

Cooking and restaurant work on the timetable

The centre offers four vocational courses and three professional certificates in hospitality and catering. Students can take basic cookery and restaurant service, intermediate restaurant service or cookery and gastronomy, and advanced kitchen management.

The certificates cover kitchen assistance, restaurant and bar assistance, and catering and collective food services. Applications for vacant intermediate and advanced places stay open until 16 October; basic-course places can be requested until 30 October.

Future courses are planned in bakery, pastry and confectionery, alongside advanced qualifications in tourist accommodation management and tourist guiding, information and assistance.

New routes link training centres

A new bus route now links Maó with the CIFP Ciutadella, giving students in the east of Menorca access to the new courses. Further connections run from Ciutadella and central Maó to the CIFP Centre de la Mar, the Pasqual Calbó i Caldés institute and the Cap de Llevant institute.

Menorca has 1,230 vocational training places this year, 30 more than last term, with 224 teachers. The Cap de Llevant institute has also added courses in beauty and aesthetics, and physical conditioning.

Across the Balearics, vocational school transport has 1,309 places: 765 in Mallorca, 240 in Ibiza and 304 in Menorca. Mallorca has new links to centres including CIFP Son Llebre, CIFP Pere de Son Gall and CIFP Politècnic de Llevant, while routes in Llevant and the north of the island have been expanded.

More than 21,000 students have begun vocational training across the islands this term. The system offers 14,479 places, up 1,507 from 2023-2024; the Ministry of Education put the Balearics' school-leaving rate at 15.2% in data published in March 2026.
