Andratx approves first climate refuge at CEIP Es Vinyet
Andratx, Mallorca, initially approved plans for its first climate refuge at CEIP Es Vinyet on 19 August. The project, supported through an agreement with the Department of Education to upgrade educational facilities, will cost more than €1 million.
The covered facility is intended to improve the school and the planned Es Vinyet sports complex. It will provide shelter during high temperatures and adverse weather, allowing pupils to take part in sporting activities in safer, more comfortable conditions.
Covered court for local sport
The court will also be available to local sports clubs, responding to the requirements of sporting organisations and athletes in Andratx. It could additionally provide a temporary venue when improvement work is carried out at the municipal Es Vinyet sports hall.
Mayor Estefanía Gonzalvo said the investment would combine educational improvements, additional opportunities for sport and an alternative for clubs while the future hall works take place.
