Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, hosts a clothes recycling marathon on 13 November: participants will turn separately collected textiles into new garments at Tirme’s premises from 09.00 to 18.00. Fundació Deixalles, the Balearic Higher School of Design (Esdib) and the Mallorca Island Council presented the event on Thursday.

Deixalles wants to show what can be made from materials that might otherwise become waste. It also hopes to prompt participants, particularly future designers, to think about fast fashion and the environmental cost of making and buying clothes. The organisation says reusing textiles can reduce waste and the need for resources to make new garments.

Prizes will be awarded at Esdib on 18 November. Entry rules and registration details are available on the Fundació Deixalles and Esdib websites.
