Mallorca's Llucmajor coalition: PSOE claims seventh exit
Mallorca's Llucmajor council loses another member of its governing team: councillor Maria Neus Marí Tomàs resigns for personal reasons. In a statement on 8 November, the local Socialist party (PSOE) says this is the team's seventh resignation or other departure this term. It blames instability within the coalition of the People's Party (PP), Vox and ASI.
PSOE council spokesman Jaume J. Oliver says the changes point to a lack of leadership. He cites persistent problems with rubbish collection, difficulties managing council staff, delays in processing planning applications and the poor condition of public facilities.
The party also points to concerns about nuisance and health problems linked to a large farm in the municipality. It mentions a Guardia Civil investigation into matters involving building permits in Son Fosquet.
Oliver says the departures reflect a government struggling to tackle Llucmajor's problems, rather than causing them. He also says the PP has decided not to put Xisca Lascolas forward as its candidate for mayor at the next local elections. He calls that a sign the party recognises its time in office has failed.
