Mallorca coast boats clear 17.5 tonnes of rubbish
Mallorca, Balearic Islands: cleaning boats pull 17.5 tonnes of rubbish from coastal waters and shores between May and September 2026. That is more than half the 34.2 tonnes collected across the Balearic Islands, according to the Balearic Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle. The five-month operation uses 23 boats: 15 working near beaches and eight along the coast.
Felanitx tops Mallorca’s tally
Crews collect 2.8 tonnes in Felanitx, the highest total on Mallorca. Pollença follows with 2.3 tonnes, while Santanyí and Andratx each account for 2.1 tonnes. Elsewhere in the Balearics, the boats collect 7.9 tonnes on Eivissa, 6.7 tonnes on Menorca and 2 tonnes on Formentera.
Plastic, wood and a live goat
Across the islands, plastic makes up 15.8 tonnes of the haul and wood another 12.5 tonnes. The coastal cleaning service also responds to 39 reports during the season, including drifting logs, scattered fuel and build-ups of plastic.
Crews help boats adrift and remove large objects from the water. On Mallorca, they also collect a live goat.
