Mallorca cocaine case: five kilos admitted in Son Banya
A woman has admitted bringing five kilos of cocaine into Son Banya in Palma, Mallorca, between June and November 2024. She made the admission on Monday, 14 September, at the Balearic Islands Provincial Court in Palma. Four other defendants have also reached agreements with prosecutors, while a sixth man will stand trial alone.
The woman, who lived in Alicante and had family links to Son Banya, was accused of repeatedly taking large amounts of cocaine into the settlement and collecting drug-trafficking proceeds. Prosecutors say she made the trips by car despite never having obtained a driving licence.
Police stop the delivery
According to the prosecution case, the group travelled from Alicante to Palma for a major delivery. Four packets, each weighing about one kilo, were handed to the woman in a bag bearing the Real Madrid crest. A fifth packet was kept back.
National Police officers watching the exchange blocked her route. Prosecutors say she drove at officers at high speed, then struck a Civil Guard patrol car during further attempts to get away.
Officers stopped her vehicle after several failed escape attempts and a warning shot fired into the air. They found four cocaine packages weighing just over four kilos, valued at more than €400,000. Investigators later found the fifth package in a false ceiling at a hotel in s’Arenal, Llucmajor.
Prison terms sought
Prosecutors had sought 16 years and six months in prison and a €1.3 million fine for the woman. The charges include offences against public health, membership of a criminal organisation, assault on an officer and road-safety offences.
For the four other defendants who made agreements, prosecutors had requested nine years and six months each, plus €1.3 million fines. The remaining defendant, who has a previous conviction, faced a request for 10 years and six months. The terms of the agreements have not been made public, but the defendants who admitted their involvement are expected to receive shorter sentences.
