Palma cocaine haul: 1,353g found inside man’s body
A man has been remanded in custody after 109 packets of cocaine weighing about 1,353 grams gross were recovered from inside his body following his arrival at Palma Airport, Mallorca. The passenger, described by police as being of Nigerian origin, landed from Charleroi in Belgium during the night of 6 September. Officers arrested him on suspicion of drug trafficking.
Tip-off leads to airport check
The Policía Nacional, the Tax Agency’s Customs Surveillance Service and the Guardia Civil acted after receiving information about a traveller suspected of hiding drugs inside his body to bring them into Mallorca.
They located and identified the passenger at Palma Airport, then took him to the airport’s passenger customs offices. He agreed to an X-ray examination under the legal safeguards, the authorities said.
X-ray reveals 109 cocaine packets
The scan showed numerous foreign objects inside the man’s body. Their shape and arrangement matched packages used to carry drugs internally, according to the joint statement.
He was taken under police guard and medical supervision to Son Espases University Hospital. There, he naturally expelled 109 packets containing a white, rock-like substance, which was confirmed as cocaine. A court has ordered his provisional detention.
