Five kilos of cocaine put six on trial in Palma
Six people go on trial in Palma on Monday, 14 September, over an alleged five-kilo cocaine delivery to Son Banya. The hearing at the Second Section of the Balearic Provincial Court is due to start at 09.30. It had originally been scheduled for April before being moved to September.
Prosecutors say the main defendant brought large amounts of cocaine into Son Banya repeatedly between June and November 2024, while collecting money from drug sales. She lived in Alicante but allegedly had close family ties to the Palma settlement.
Alleged handover ended in attempted escape
According to the prosecution, other defendants, some related to the alleged ringleader, travelled from Alicante to Palma for a major cocaine handover. Four of five packages, each weighing about one kilo, were allegedly passed to the woman in a bag bearing the Real Madrid crest. The fifth remained with the others.
Police officers then blocked her route, prosecutors say. She allegedly drove at them at speed, then struck a Guardia Civil patrol during further attempts to get away.
After several more attempts to escape and a warning shot fired into the air, officers stopped the car. They found four packages containing just over four kilos of cocaine, valued at more than €400,000. The fifth package was allegedly found in a false ceiling in a hotel room in s'Arenal, Llucmajor.
Prosecutors seek up to 65 years in prison
The main defendant faces a prosecution request for 16 years and six months in prison, a €1.3 million fine and €3,087 compensation. She is accused of offences against public health, belonging to a criminal organisation, assaulting an officer and road-safety offences.
Prosecutors are seeking nine years and six months and €1.3 million fines for four other defendants. For the sixth, they are requesting ten years and six months because of a previous conviction. Together, the six face up to 65 years in prison and fines totalling as much as €7.8 million.
