Mallorca’s housing debate takes centre stage at a rally in Sant Jeroni square in Palma, Mallorca, on 8 November 2026: Ada Colau tells around 300 people that some in the Balearics see the island as a business rather than a place to live.

Colau, Frente Amplio’s lead candidate for Congress and a former Barcelona mayor, says most people work while a minority look to make money from Mallorca. She says she is standing to secure the right to housing, not to lead the government.

A push for votes before 29 November

Colau wants her supporters to help overturn the polls before the 29 November election. She says Frente Amplio is polling at 8 per cent and calculates that a rise to 10 per cent could give it 22 seats instead of eight.

Carme Gomila, lead candidate for Ara Més-Front Ampli, says the coalition will not simply back the same policies in Madrid. She calls for limits on property purchases by non-residents and on prices for basic foods. She also says the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) must show through its actions whether it is willing to change course.
