Balearics: 20 workers hit by collective redundancies
Twenty workers in the Balearics were affected by collective redundancy procedures in July. Provisional figures released on Thursday by Spain’s Ministry of Labour and Social Economy show that no workers were affected by such procedures in the same month of 2025. Altogether, 42 workers in the islands were covered by employment-regulation measures, double the previous year’s total.
The July figures also record 18 workers whose contracts were suspended, three fewer than in 2025. Four workers moved onto reduced hours; there had been no such cases a year earlier.
A collective redundancy procedure is a formal process affecting a group of workers. The ministry counts one procedure for each province when it covers workplaces in different provinces. If a company reports affected workers in separate months, each month is also counted as a separate procedure.
Across Spain, the number of workers affected by collective redundancies fell 30.5% in July to 3,473. The Balearics was among the regions where the overall number of workers affected by employment-regulation measures rose, increasing 100% to 42.
