Balearic company insolvencies fall 19.8% to 89
The Balearic Islands have seen 89 companies enter insolvency proceedings since the start of 2026, down 19.8% on a year earlier. Business analysis company Experian gives the figure in its October report, which covers the period up to November. In October alone, ten island companies began insolvency proceedings, 25% fewer than in October 2025.
New businesses tell a mixed story. More than 3,800 companies have been set up across the Balearic Islands in 2026, up 0.3% on a year earlier. But October brought just 290 new companies, a drop of 31.3%.
Across Spain, 562 companies entered insolvency proceedings in October, compared with 681 a year earlier. That 17.5% fall brings the total for the first ten months of 2026 to 5,091, down 2.5% on the same period in 2025.
Spain has also recorded more than 112,000 new companies in those ten months, up 6.7%. October's figure fell 7.1% to 10,676. Experian points to an unusually busy October 2025 as the comparison, rather than a reversal of the year's growth in new businesses.
