Mallorca’s Copa del Rey to decide new sailing series
Mallorca’s capital, Palma, hosts the finale of a new sailing series from 31 July to 7 August 2027: the 45th Copa del Rey Mapfre will decide who takes the trophy. The International Med Circuit is a three-stop contest for ORC 0 boats, the fastest in the ORC fleet. Copa del Rey Mapfre organisers announced the plan on Monday.
Two stops in Italy before Palma
The series begins in Sorrento in May, moves to Scarlino in June and ends in Palma, where the winner receives the ORC Challenge Paolo Massarini trophy. Entry is limited to ORC 0 boats with a valid ORC International certificate.
The Offshore Racing Congress announced the circuit with the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia and the Yacht Club Toscana. It is intended to give owners and crews a shared calendar across the Mediterranean season.
A familiar fleet in Palma
The class brought 17 boats to Palma’s Copa del Rey Mapfre in 2025, when the regatta hosted its European championship. The American TP52 Vesper won.
In 2026, 14 ORC 0 boats started, including ten TP52s or boats originally built as TP52s. Mauro Gestri’s Vudu took the win. The regatta has been organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma since its first edition in 1982.
