Mallorca councils join Balearic data-sharing drive

Town halls on Mallorca and across the Balearic Islands are set to share and reuse information through a secure digital data hub. The Balearic Government and the Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands (Felib) signed an agreement on Monday to lay the groundwork for it.

The planned data space is intended to give councils dependable access to information, helping them improve their processes and make strategic decisions based on data. It would also provide a secure setting for companies, public bodies and other economic players to exchange and use different kinds of data.

The agreement also backs a data network designed to bring public bodies together with each other and with private organisations. It treats data as a strategic asset for innovation in both business and government.

Sebastián González, the director general for Innovation and Digital Transformation, said the deal was a key step towards making the islands’ administrations more efficient in an increasingly digital environment. Felib president Jaume Ferriol said town halls need quality data and must manage it properly if they are to improve their work and public service.
