On Mallorca, the Spanish National Police arrest a man in Portocristo, in Manacor, after his former partner reports 55 calls in a short time and death threats. He tries to run when officers find him and resists arrest. Police say the arrest follows a search lasting about a week; a court was already seeking him to serve an earlier 11-year prison sentence.

Late last week, police investigators in Manacor learned that the man had allegedly threatened his former partner despite a restraining order. Police say he called from a withheld number and threatened to beat her and her family. Her complaint says further death threats came from a mobile phone that was not his.

The Civil Guard, which was investigating the man over other incidents, told police he might be in Portocristo, possibly sheltered by people close to him. Investigators in Manacor began searching and found him there.

Police detain him on suspicion of abuse and breaching the restraining order. He is now in prison under the earlier court order.
