Gas bills in Spain: €25.31 a month per flat at stake
An 80-home block in Spain could face around €25.31 per flat each month for six months to clear deferred gas costs. Spain’s General Council of Property Administrators gave that estimate on Thursday, 5 November, as it called for owners’ communities on the regulated natural gas tariff, known as TUR, to choose how they pay. The council warns that unpaid costs could otherwise become debts lasting years and gathering interest.
The council supports the tariff, which limits gas price rises linked to geopolitical conflicts. But it says the arrangement delays a substantial part of the increase rather than removing it.
It wants communities to have two options. They could pay more during winter and avoid building up a debt, or pay less in the months when they use more gas and clear the outstanding amount between May and October, when heating demand is lower.
The €25.31 figure is the council’s estimate for a typical home in an 80-home building if the deferred costs are paid off between May and October. It excludes financing costs. The council says communities need to see the likely cost of each option in advance, so unpaid bills do not carry over into the next heating season.
