The three companies paid more than €537,000 in taxes, which Deixalles said exceeded the public support they received. The amount of that support was not disclosed.

Employment backgrounds

Deixalles Serveis Ambientals accounted for 87 contracts, including 65 for men and 22 for women. Its manager, María Jaume, said 53% of recruits were aged 45 to 65, while 91% had not been receiving benefits; 40% had previously lived in inadequate housing, shared homes or on the street.

Deixalles Inserció i Triatge recruited 58 people, of whom 48 were men. More than half faced socioeconomic difficulties and 26% had no schooling or had not completed primary education. Triamdetot added 17 contracts: 59% of those recruited had socioeconomic problems and almost 95% had received no benefits.

Textile collection expansion

Deixalles Serveis Ambientals collects textiles in the Raiguer municipal association, which includes Alaró, Mallorca, Inca, Mallorca, Lloseta, Mallorca and Binissalem, Mallorca, as well as in 15 other municipalities on the island. A textile-collection partnership with Llucmajor Town Hall, Mallorca, is also planned.

A contract signed with Emaya in Palma in February allows for additional textile collection containers. Deixalles expects more people to seek help entering employment in October or November, after the tourism season ends and many Mallorca hotels close.
