Mallorca university launches digital records research
In Palma, Mallorca, Spain, a new university programme is looking at how digital tools could make legal processes more efficient. The Universitat de les Illes Balears and the Fundación Registral set up the teaching and research chair on 5 October 2026. It is their first agreement together.
The chair will focus on registration law, including the rules governing property records. Jesús Sieira, the Balearic Islands’ registrar representative, said it would teach legal professionals and the university how to apply new technology. Rosario Jiménez, head of Spain’s registrars’ association, said digitisation is changing the profession across the board.
The Fundación Registral will fund the chair, led by Aina Salom, dean of the university’s law faculty. Its work will also cover mortgages, housing, planning and company law. Plans include seminars, research projects, specialist training and awards for students’ work.
The agreement runs for two years and can be extended by another four. University rector Jaume Carot said he hoped the chair would continue beyond that.
