Balearics tourism: €600,000 funds disability jobs

Tourism businesses across the Balearics can claim up to €9,000 towards the cost of employing a person with a disability. The €600,000 scheme is aimed at people who face particular barriers to getting work or staying in it. Labour Minister Catalina Cabrer announced it at Casa Esment in Palma on Wednesday.

The funding comes from the Sustainable Tourism Tax fund, known as ITS. The Balearic Government plans to publish the call for applications in the final quarter of the year.

Support for jobs in tourism

The grant will cover part of a worker’s gross pay and the employer’s social-security contributions. It applies to supported employment, with the business required to have an agreement with a non-profit organisation that provides a job coach.

Private individuals, companies, groups and other private bodies that own, run or manage tourist establishments in the Balearics may apply. Special employment centres are excluded.

The scheme covers people with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, mental-health conditions or autism spectrum disorder, as well as physical, sensory and hearing disabilities. People with borderline intellectual capacity may also qualify under the terms of the call.

Funding runs into 2028

Of the €600,000 budget, €535,710 is allocated for 2027 and €64,290 for 2028. Eligible costs fall into three periods: 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026; 1 January to 30 June 2027; and 1 July to 31 December 2027.

Applicants can submit one claim for each period, up to three in total. Work carried out before the call is published can be included because the first eligible period begins on 1 January 2025.

Businesses must provide the employment contract and any changes to it, proof of a current disability rating, payslips, evidence that wages were paid, employment records, social-security documents and proof of contributions. Each approved claim will be paid in one sum once the paperwork has been checked.
