Doctors' strike committee to meet PSOE over statute

A dispute over the rules for Spain’s healthcare staff remains open: the doctors’ strike committee will meet Socialist MPs in the Congress of Deputies on Friday. The meeting was reported from Madrid on 3 November. The committee wants to explain where doctors and other medical professionals stand on proposed changes to the framework statute for healthcare workers.

The committee brings together the Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions, the Andalusian Medical Union and the Medical Union of the Basque Country. It wants a separate statute for doctors and other medical professionals.

It has asked every parliamentary group for its position before the 29 November election. Once a new government is formed, the committee hopes to resume negotiations with someone who has full authority to negotiate. For now, it says the dispute is far from a satisfactory resolution.
