Mallorca dogs rescued after collar wounds neck

Two Akita Inus have been removed from poor conditions in Santa Eugènia, Mallorca, after one was found with a deep wound measuring between 2 and 3 cm around its neck. The Guardia Civil is investigating one person over suspected animal cruelty. Both dogs were taken away for protection and veterinary care.

The case began with a report to Santa Eugènia Local Police. Officers from the Guardia Civil’s nature protection service, Seprona, inspected the animals and found that neither was being kept in conditions suitable for their welfare.

Inspectors believe the neck injury may have been caused by the dog’s collar. They say it may have become too tight as the animal grew and cut into its skin.

The Guardia Civil, Local Police, Santa Eugènia Town Hall and staff from Fundació Natura Parc coordinated the removal and transport. After initial care, the two dogs were moved to the foundation, where they remain under veterinary supervision and are receiving treatment for their injuries.

The Guardia Civil said pet owners must provide proper health care, hygiene, food, accommodation and welfare, while keeping a close watch on an animal’s physical condition. It said suspected neglect or animal abuse can be reported on 062.
