Ibiza dogs face road danger in Sant Josep

Several dogs believed to have been abandoned are at risk beside roads in Sant Josep, Ibiza. On 3 September, the animal-rights party Pacma called on the council to find the animals and bring them to safety. Private individuals and animal welfare groups have already been trying to rescue them for some time.

Those involved have warned that several of the dogs may already have been hit by vehicles. Pacma’s Ibiza island coordinator, Olivier Hassler, said the council must respond quickly and actively.

He called for every available resource to be used to locate the dogs, catch them safely and provide veterinary care. Any rehabilitation needed should come before the animals are put up for adoption.

Pacma also wants the council to check whether the dogs have microchips, investigate where they came from and establish whether anyone could be held responsible for abandoning them. Hassler said the Local Police, veterinary services and the municipal collection service should work together to prevent the animals dying or causing crashes with vehicles.
