Mallorca care home staff protest over shortages

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Staff gathered outside the DomusVi Palma residence on Camí dels Reis on Friday to protest over what they say is too few workers and mounting workloads. They want the company to add staff, cut the pressure on the existing team and improve working conditions. The Comisiones Obreras trade union, known as CCOO, backs their demands.

CCOO said the steps taken so far had not solved the problem and that staff were still carrying a heavy workload. The union said the shortage also affects the care provided to residents.

It is calling for more employees, better organisation of human resources and measures to secure decent working conditions and good-quality care. CCOO said it would continue pressing the workforce’s case while the shortcomings remain.
