€350,000 for Consell, Mallorca: the town council can start work on rainwater drains, but Palma Street must wait for a new surface until the pipes are in place. The Mallorca Island Council and Consell town council agreed the order of work on Tuesday, 27 October. The drains are intended to prevent flooding in the town centre during heavy rain.

Consell has had a drainage plan since 2021, but has not been able to fund it. The scheme is budgeted at nearly €1.5 million. Because the pipes are the town council’s responsibility, the island council says it cannot resurface the road until that work is done.

The island council has set aside €350,000 to help Consell begin the drainage work. It will consider increasing funding through its Works and Services Plan in coming years and meet the regional government to explore further help. Once the pipes are installed, the island council plans to lay a new surface on Palma Street.
