Mallorca: A drunk driver hits a car carrying two young children head-on in Palma, and an ambulance takes them and their mother to a private clinic for checks. The crash happens on Camí de Can Palou at about 21.15 on 3 October, Palma Local Police say. A call for help also reports smoke coming from one car’s engine.

The woman is driving towards Pont d’Inca in her own lane when the other car comes straight towards her. Its 55-year-old driver is heading for Camí Vell de Sineu. He is driving on the left because he believes the road is one-way, police say. Neither driver has time to avoid the collision.

A breath test puts the man at 0.75 mg/l, three times the permitted level and above the threshold for a criminal offence. The woman tests negative. Police are investigating the man on suspicion of a road-safety offence but do not arrest him. They have sent the case papers to the duty court.
