Palma e-scooter hits police car, driver faces fines

An e-scooter carrying two people hit a police car in Palma, Mallorca, at about 23.30 on Monday. The crash happened at the junction of Camí de la Vileta and Carrer Costa de Saragossa as the patrol car was turning left. Nobody was hurt.

The scooter had been travelling along the pavement towards Son Moix when it suddenly entered the pedestrian crossing without its rider getting off, Palma Local Police said. The officer driving the patrol car could not avoid it, and the scooter struck the vehicle’s front right side.

The impact damaged the patrol car’s right-hand mirror, door and front wing. The scooter’s lights, steering tube, wheel and brake cable were also damaged.

Palma Local Police hold the scooter rider solely responsible and have opened several administrative penalty cases. Officers say they plan to fine the rider for using the pavement, carrying a passenger, not wearing an approved helmet or reflective vest, and riding without the compulsory third-party liability insurance.
