Mallorca MPs seek family school for eating disorders
Families on Mallorca could get help with eating disorders: the Balearic Parliament is calling for a specialist school to train families across the islands. Its Health Committee approved the call in Palma, Mallorca, on 28 October 2026, according to the parliament. The proposal came from the People’s Party; Vox and MÉS per Mallorca abstained on the call to create the school.
Spotting setbacks and helping at mealtimes
The proposed school would form part of the Balearic Islands’ strategy for emotional wellbeing and mental health. MPs want training based on scientific evidence for families, teachers and carers. It would cover how to spot early signs of a relapse or worsening condition, support someone during meals, handle emotional strain and use parenting approaches suited to eating disorders. Vox abstained on these training proposals.
The committee also called for closer work between child and adolescent mental health teams, primary care centres and educational psychologists, including referrals and continuing training. It wants patient and family associations to work with other non-profit groups to build mutual support groups on every island.
Medical inspection proposal rejected
The same committee rejected a separate Socialist proposal to fill two vacant medical inspection leadership posts by the end of the year and immediately fill four vacant inspector posts out of a staff complement of seven. The Socialists also wanted inspection services in Manacor and Inca on Mallorca, and on Menorca, to operate often enough to answer patients before year’s end.
Their proposal sought changes to inspectors’ working conditions and higher travel allowances for inspection staff going to Manacor, Eivissa and Menorca. The People’s Party, Vox and Formentera MP Llorenç Córdoba voted against it.
