Mallorca: education union backs 11 November general strike
In Palma, Mallorca, education union UOB Enseñanza says it will join the 11 November general strike after 72.7% of votes at its assembly backed the move. The union announced the decision on Tuesday, 27 October.
It points to the housing crisis, pay rises it says are too small, the difficulty of balancing work and family life, and the growing poverty of working people. Housing has reached a breaking point, the union says, affecting workers in every sector, particularly in the Balearic Islands.
UOB Enseñanza blames the free market and what it calls empty promises from those in power. It says pressure on the streets is needed to secure tough measures and laws against speculation and violations of the right to decent housing.
