PSOE accuses Sant Antoni mayor over Egyptian party

The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) has accused Marcos Serra, mayor of Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza, of repeatedly giving false accounts of an Egyptian party held in sa Pedrera on 13 August. The private event has drawn criticism over its water use during a period of water-supply pressure.

The party said on 23 August that it had reviewed the municipal case file and technical documentation submitted by the organisers. It argued that the documents contradicted Serra’s account of what the council knew before the event.

According to PSOE, plans supplied to Sant Antoni de Portmany Town Hall showed that a large water feature was intended. While the documents did not specifically describe it as an artificial lake, the party said the area appeared in blue on around ten attached maps, marked with the English word “water”.

PSOE also questioned why the council had not requested a translation or clarification of the English-language material before issuing favourable reports. It said that, if technical staff understood the plans, they should have identified the proposed water area; if not, the council should not have approved the activity without clearer documentation.

The party has called on Serra to publish the technical plans and said it will raise the handling of the file at the next municipal council meeting, where it intends to seek political accountability.
