Eivissa housing row: Vox demands Spanish priority
Vox is attacking the rules for planned affordable homes at Ca n'Escandell in Eivissa, Ibiza, after the Housing Minister said legal residents from anywhere in Spain will be able to apply. The party wants Spanish nationals to take priority and says applicants’ long-standing ties to the city must count heavily.
Isabel Rodríguez said on Thursday that successful applicants will only have to register on Eivissa’s municipal register after they have secured a tenancy. Vox said on Friday that this could allow people who do not live permanently in the city to obtain the homes.
The party says the final rules should state clearly how much weight will be given to nationality, time living in and registered in Eivissa, employment, family circumstances and other evidence of local roots.
Vox pointed to land already provided by Eivissa Town Hall for affordable homes for healthcare workers. It also cited housing developments being prepared solely for regional and state civil servants.
The group is concerned that final criteria set by Casa 47 could open the Ca n'Escandell homes to people with no previous link to the island. It described the minister’s visit as a sham, saying key details are still missing, including the homes’ features, rents, allocation rules and when people will be able to move in.
