Ibiza emergency radio now has 14 sites

Ibiza now has 14 emergency radio stations: the newest, in Sant Miquel de Balansat in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja, strengthens connections for crews working inland. The Balearic government brought it into service on 28 September 2026, as Sant Miquel celebrates its local festivities. It is part of TetraIB, the Balearic Islands’ public radio network for security and emergency services.

Distances and changes in height make radio coverage difficult in inland Ibiza, the government says. Sant Joan’s local police use TetraIB every day, not just during major emergencies. The shared network also helps police, firefighters, civil protection and health teams coordinate when they attend the same incident.

Ibiza had seven TetraIB stations when the current expansion began. It now has 14, with outdoor coverage reaching about 87% of the island and 96% of populated areas, according to the government. More work is planned: three stations are due in the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu, at Cala Llonga, Puig d’en Gat and Santa Eulària.
