Balearics power grid jobs: Endesa opens fifth course

Endesa has launched a fifth training course for electricity distribution networks in the Balearic Islands, as firms seek more qualified technical staff. The programme began on Tuesday, 22 September, with training for teachers. It combines classroom learning with practical work and is run with the Balearic Islands education department and contractors of e-distribución, Endesa’s distribution-network subsidiary.

The company says the course is designed to prepare workers for the changing electricity system. The latest National Energy and Climate Plan forecasts €53,000 million of investment in electricity networks by 2030.

2,000 hours over two academic years

The dual vocational course includes 2,000 hours of theory and practical training across two academic years. About 100 hours are set aside for safety training.

Work placements with companies cover field tasks involved in maintaining, modernising and expanding electricity networks. Endesa says the programme also aims to bring more women into technical roles and create local job opportunities.

Most last-course students received offers

According to Endesa, 80% of students in the previous intake completed the course and received a job offer. More than 80% of those offered a post were then hired for Endesa’s electricity distribution networks.

Since the scheme began in 2022, it has involved 36 education centres, 102 teachers and 296 students. Endesa says 163 now work for its contractor companies, while others have continued their studies or joined other firms in the sector.

The company is also developing an intensive programme for entry-level operational roles, where it says employers have many vacancies but few candidates. It is aimed particularly at people actively looking for work.
