Ibiza electricity grid: €17m plan covers 68km

Endesa has set out a €17 million plan for 77 electricity-grid projects across Ibiza’s five municipalities between 2027 and 2030. The company presented the plan to the Island Council of Ibiza on 11 September. Its subsidiary e-distribución will work on 68 kilometres of network to increase capacity, reliability and resilience.

Most of the programme targets the main distribution network, known as the medium-voltage grid. Endesa is also drawing up a separate package of work for the low-voltage network.

Projects across all five municipalities

Eivissa is due to receive 22 projects worth €1.9 million, covering nearly eight kilometres of network. Sant Antoni has 14 projects planned, with more than €3 million earmarked for improvements across 11.7 kilometres.

Sant Joan is set for four projects worth €1.7 million on 11.1 kilometres of network. Sant Josep has 21 schemes budgeted at more than €4.8 million across nearly 17 kilometres, while Santa Eulària has 16 projects worth €5.4 million covering 20.1 kilometres.

Permits will set the pace

Endesa says the programme responds to changing demand and the need to modernise infrastructure. The projects will be rolled out gradually as permits and authorisations are secured.

The Island Council of Ibiza and town halls will form working groups with Endesa to define the work in each municipality. Council president Vicent Marí said the authorities would seek to speed up permits so that bureaucracy does not hold up the projects.

Marí also called for stronger preventive maintenance, along with enough staff and equipment to prevent faults and respond quickly when breakdowns occur. Endesa said this summer’s power cuts came during exceptional conditions, with high temperatures placing heavy demands on parts of the network.

Business association Pimeef, which attended the meeting, said it will launch a self-assessment campaign this autumn so firms can check whether their installations and power supply match their consumption needs.
