More than 70% of Endesa stays with Enel: the Italian energy group says it has no interest in selling even part of its stake in the Spanish electricity company. The denial comes in a Europa Press report from Madrid on 20 October 2026. Enel is responding to a report that has revived talk of a possible sale.

The newspaper Vozpópuli reports that the Italian government, Enel’s largest shareholder, recently sounded out potential investors about a sale of Endesa. Enel says its plans instead call for growth in Europe and America. It has rejected sale rumours before and says they have never had any basis.

Enel and Acciona took joint control of Endesa in 2007. Enel bought Acciona’s 25% stake in 2009 and later held 92% of the company. An offer to sell shares and the disposal of Latin American assets brought its holding down to more than 70% in 2014. It has stayed at that level since.
