Mallorca firms could profit from energy savings

Mallorca businesses could profit from energy savings: a meeting in Palma, Mallorca, next Tuesday will show firms how to make efficiency improvements pay. The Spanish National Association of Energy Service Companies (Anese) and the Balearic Ecological Transition Cluster (Cluster TEIB) are organising the event, with a focus on tourism and energy-saving certificates.

Cluster president Silvia Vendrell says many firms do not know they can benefit financially from improvements they are already making. The meeting will introduce them to tools and specialists who can help. It will also examine energy-saving certificates, known in Spanish as Certificados de Ahorro Energético (CAEs).

Across the Balearic Islands, 729 measures were recorded under the certificate system in October, with 68 gigawatt-hours of savings requested. Figures from NovaWatt’s CAE Observatory show that replacing combustion-engine vehicles with electric ones accounted for 84.3 per cent of the measures. Industry accounted for just 0.8 per cent, but sought 21 gigawatt-hours in savings. Representatives of the ministry responsible for ecological transition, Balearic energy officials and Mallorca’s hotel federation will take part in the meeting.
