Mallorca's Enric Mas wins 2026 Vuelta in Granada

Mallorca rider Enric Mas is the official winner of the 2026 Vuelta a España after organisers froze the overall standings with 9.8 km left in Granada. The 31-year-old Movistar Team rider takes the title on Sunday, 13 September, after favourite and race leader Tadej Pogacar of UAE Emirates Team withdrew. Norway's Tobias Johannessen won the 112 km final stage from Carrefour Granada to Granada.

A long-awaited breakthrough

Mas had already stood on the Vuelta podium four times, finishing second in 2018, 2021 and 2022, then third in 2024. This is his first win in Spain's grand tour.

He is the first Spanish rider to win the Vuelta since Alberto Contador in 2014. At 31, Mas is also the oldest winner of the race since Chris Horner took the title aged 41 in 2013.

A late break below the Alhambra

The final stage was built to avoid the usual bunch sprint, with an uphill finish at the foot of the Alhambra. A small breakaway group decided the day instead.

Pello Bilbao attacked first with 9 km remaining and again just over 3 km from the line. The decisive move came inside the final kilometre, when Ramses Debruyne went clear with Johannessen and Alessandro Romele.

Johannessen of Uno-X Mobility beat Italy's Romele and Belgium's Debruyne in the final metres to take the stage victory.
