Mallorca’s Enric Mas hands over the red jersey from his Vuelta win for Telefónica’s sponsorship museum in Madrid on Friday, 16 October. He presents it at the company’s headquarters, where more than 100 employees gather to mark his victory. The Movistar Team rider won the race in September, ending a 12-year wait for a Spanish overall champion.

A win years in the making

Mas won the 81st Vuelta in Granada on 13 September, taking his first overall victory in a major cycling tour. His result also gave Movistar Team its first such win in seven years. Telefónica has backed the team for 15 years.

Mas looks ahead

Mas says he wants to keep competing for major wins, particularly at the Vuelta, which he calls his favourite race. He says the wealth of performance data now available has radically changed cycling. After his professional career, he would like to manage a small group of riders so he can work closely with them.
