Mallorca’s Enric Mas wins Vuelta after 12-year wait

Mallorca cyclist Enric Mas has sealed victory in the 2026 Vuelta a España after defending his overall lead on the penultimate stage. The result, confirmed on 12 September, makes him Spain’s first Vuelta champion in 12 years.
Balearic Government President Marga Prohens congratulated Mas on X minutes after the stage finished. She said the rider had made history and put Mallorca and the Balearic Islands at the top of world cycling.
Prohens praised the years of work, sacrifice, determination and fight behind the win. “All Mallorca celebrates your victory,” she said, adding that the title was the reward Mas deserved.
