In the Balearic Islands, Carme Gomilla will lead Ara Més’s list at Spain’s general election on 29 November, giving her party, ERC, a chance to win a seat outside Catalan constituencies. Gomilla heads ERC in the islands. The party announced its agreement with Ara Més on Monday in Barcelona.

ERC has also agreed to join lists with Compromís, Podemos and Esquerra Unida del País Valencià in the Valencian Community. Five ERC candidates will stand on those lists: two in Valencia, two in Alicante and one in second place in Castellón.

ERC deputy secretary-general Oriol López said a Balearic win could give the party a seat outside Catalan constituencies for the first time since the 1930s. Two campaign events are planned in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. ERC’s lead candidate for Congress, Gabriel Rufián, will take part if possible.

After the election, anyone elected from the Ara Més or Compromís lists will decide which parliamentary group to join.
