Spain has yet to approve the EU disability card, which is intended to help people with disabilities when they travel to other EU countries. In Madrid on 3 November, the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI) urged Social Rights Minister Pablo Bustinduy to approve the decree setting up the card and a European Parking Card. CERMI president Luis Cayo Pérez Bueno wants the remaining steps completed in the coming weeks.

The disability card is intended to help other EU countries recognise a person's disability status. CERMI says that could make it easier for travellers to use certain benefits and access arrangements abroad. The decree would also set out the rules for the parking card.

CERMI says Spain played a major part in bringing about the EU measure and that its own decree is already well advanced. It has asked Bustinduy to speed up the outstanding procedures and coordinate the ministries involved. With an election announcement approaching, the group also wants the government to examine whether it could approve the decree even if it enters a caretaker period.
