10 EV charging bays open in Sa Ràpita, Mallorca
Ten electric cars can now charge at the same time in the public car park beside the yacht club in Sa Ràpita, Mallorca. The site has five double charging units, creating 10 EV charging bays. The Balearic Ministry of Business, Self-Employed Workers and Energy announced the addition on Friday, 18 September.
The new units join the Melib public charging network and take the total in the municipality of Campos to 22 points. All are working, according to the Balearic Government. Campos Council and the Balearic Energy Institute (IBE) have signed a maintenance agreement for the chargers.
Drivers using the new points pay 0.25 euros/kWh. The ministry said the charge is intended to encourage proper use of the equipment and keep the service financially sustainable for the municipality.
Energy minister Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro said the extra spaces strengthen charging provision in a busy area and make it easier for more people to choose electric vehicles. He said electric cars can cut emissions and save on fuel and maintenance.
Melib has an average operating rate of 84%. Its network currently includes 510 charging connections on Mallorca, 195 on Menorca, 163 on Ibiza and 12 on Formentera.
