Mallorca housing row: eviction protection until 2030
In Palma, Mallorca, Spain’s move to extend eviction protection until 2030 sparks a housing row on Tuesday, 29 September: PSIB spokesman Iago Negueruela accuses Balearic president Marga Prohens of failing to act on access to housing.
The Spanish Council of Ministers has approved two housing decrees. They regulate seasonal and room rentals, restrict property purchases by funds known as “vulture funds” in many cases until 2028, and automatically extend existing rental contracts due to end before 31 December 2028 by two years.
Negueruela says the Balearic Islands have more evictions than any other Spanish region. He urges Prohens to show “courage”, arguing that she has the powers to act on housing but is taking no measures.
